Ramadan 2018 (1439H) – Food Distribution

Qidwai Welfare Trust distributed approximately 77,500kg (170,858 lbs) of food stables to 1,550 Zakat eligible families in some of the poorest, and neediest communities in Pakistan, as a part of its annual Ramadan Food Distribution. It distributed 600 food packs in various locations in the Thar Desert, 250 food packs in the Cholistan Desert, 300 food packs in Charsada – KPK, 200 food packs in Jampur – Punjab, 200 food packs in Karachi.

All the recipient families were pre-screened by the partner organizations, (Muslim Aid Pakistan & Penny Appeals Pakistan), a couple of days prior to the distribution, and all efforts were made to ensure that they were Zakat eligible. Preference was given to poor and needy families of orphans, widows, homeless, unemployed and disabled people.

Like last year, the bulk of the distribution was done in remote areas in Thar and Cholistan deserts, which were hours away form major cities and only accessible via sand roads, and thus ignored by most other organizations.  QWT targeted some of the most underdeveloped areas which had no electricity, gas, running water, mobile telecommunication coverage, proper schools, clinics or hospitals. The residents of these areas were mostly nomads living in mud dwellings, and surviving off their small herds of livestock.
