Ramadan 2017 (1438H) – Food Distribution

This year Qidwai Welfare Trust had another very successful Ramadan Food Distribution. We managed to distribute approximately 76,450kg (168,540 lb) of food stables to 1,529 Zakat eligible families in some of the poorest, and neediest communities in Pakistan. We distributed 500 food packs in various locations in the Thar Desert, 250 food packs in the Cholistan Desert, 300 food packs in Mardan – KPK, 250 food packs in Jampur – Punjab, 100 food packs in Lahore, 100 food packs in Hub, Balochistan, and 29 food packs in Islamabad.

All the recipient families were pre-screened by our partner organization, Muslim Aid Pakistan, a couple of days prior to the distribution, and all efforts were made to ensure that they were Zakat eligible. Preference was given to poor and needy families of orphans, widows, homeless, unemployed and disabled people.

We distributed 50% of our food packs in the Thar & Cholistan Deserts. These areas are hours away from major cities, and are only accessible via sand roads, and have no electricity, gas, running water, mobile telecommunication coverage, proper schools, clinics or hospitals. The residents of these areas are mostly nomads living in mud dwellings, and surviving off their small dwindling herds of livestock.
